Purpose: The Testing & Commissioning Engineer is responsible for supporting the testing and commissioning activities for multiple solar and battery PV projects. This individual will work to ensure all job tasks related to project start-up and commissioning are planned for and completed within pre-established schedules. This individual will be required to secure and maintain strong working relationships with our client’s corporate support functions, along with various contractors and key equipment vendors.

Position Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Ensures that testing and commissioning procedures are executed in a standardized method and observations/results are documented in a consistent format.
- Start-up and commission responsibilities will at a minimum apply to the following equipment within a solar PV project:
- Inverters
- Solar trackers
- SCADA
- Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Uses standard tools to gather, track and assess the information collected during start-up and commissioning activities.
- Publishes original materials and continually enhances documentation surrounding the processes, procedures, responsibility matrix and tools to be used during a project’s start-up, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Comprehends and ensures compliance with applicable environmental, interconnection, transmission operator and client rules, regulations, and standards. Capable of understanding and complying with the contractual terms outlined in various agreements and contracts.
- Tracks multiple work task schedules, provides schedule progression updates, and proactively identifies schedule constraints.
- Coordinates efforts of various stakeholders needed to work collaboratively on plant start-up and commission activities (internal resources, key equipment vendors, PV Plant contractor(s), and Substation EPC contractor).
- Drafts and prepares various forms of written communications to project management, subcontractors, and client technical support personnel.
- Prepares and maintains up-to-date files, records, and reports on the status and progress of start- up and commission efforts on our projects.
- Coordinates meetings and presents reports to various Project Delivery and subcontractor team members regarding status and progress of project start-up and commission activities
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience supporting the construction and commissioning of electric power generation facilities, preferably for PV Solar projects.
- Strong experience working with solar inverters including SolarEdge, SMA, Chint equipment (Inverters & Optimizers)
- Excellent knowledge of construction, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment.
- Excellent knowledge of National Electrical Codes, electrical specifications, NFPA70e, and OSHA guidelines surrounding safe construction practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient with mobile technology and associated commissioning software application.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong communication and data processing skills.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks or assignments simultaneously and efficiently without direct supervision with the ability to shift focus quickly and efficiently between varying tasks and priorities.
- Ability to organize and coordinate cross-functional teams required to work cooperatively during a project’s start-up, testing, and commissioning phase.
- Ability to establish and leverage relationships with key stakeholders to proactively initiate requests for support from targeted internal and external subject matter experts needed to address plant startup and commissioning requirements.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
- Must be willing to travel to construction sites on a day-to-day basis, attend meetings as needed.
