Position Summary
The Vice President of Development leads the organization’s development strategy, overseeing project origination, qualification, and execution. This executive role drives business growth through strategic planning, market expansion, and operational excellence, ensuring alignment with company goals and profitability targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Direct all development activities, including scheduling, permitting, entitlements, budgeting, and interconnection processes.
- Project Origination: Identify and develop new projects, guiding account managers, and ensuring feasibility through economic analysis.
- Financial Oversight: Collaborate with the CEO and finance partners on proposal generation, project financing, and risk management.
- Reporting & Resource Allocation: Provide regular project status updates and prioritize team resources to maximize returns and minimize risk.
- Market Development: Lead external sales, channel partnerships, and market segmentation; identify new opportunities for utility-scale projects, including PV and energy storage solutions.
- Marketing & Outreach: Oversee marketing initiatives and industry engagement in coordination with consultants and leadership.
- Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in development processes and proposal management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Build and manage a high-performing development team, including hiring, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Oversee subcontractors and consultants in collaboration with Legal.
- Ensure compliance with company policies for discipline and termination.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Deep knowledge of solar industry principles, permitting, and interconnection processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; expertise in financial modeling and data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel 25–50% as needed.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Engineering, Logistics, or related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of power generation project development experience, including 5+ years in utility-scale solar.
- Comprehensive understanding of state regulations, interconnection processes, power marketing strategies, and sitting considerations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a desk for extended periods and lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
- The position will be located in the Mahwah, NJ office with an onsite presence 5 days a week.
