Ground mount solar panels are mounted on the ground on a property. Metal framing secures solar panels into the ground at an optimal fixed angle facing the sun. Ground-mounted solar panels can be installed in many places on a property with sufficient open space and good sun exposure. The project is designed with minimal environmental impact, as system panels can be placed a few inches to a few feet off the ground, depending on the racking system design. EXPOSURE & LOCATION
Ground-mounted solar systems essentially work the same—systems anchor to the ground and hold many stacked panels. Solar systems can be ballasted and mounted above the ground and secured frames on top of blocks with solar modules secured into the frames. If ground penetration is viable, ground-mounted solar systems can drive steel beams into the ground and attach the racking system to the beams.
SIZE OF INSTALLATION & ENERGY PRODUCTION CAPACITY
Ground-mounted solar design is based on the energy production goals and the property size (acres of available land). A minimum of an acre to hundreds of acres is typically used, while community solar sites usually consist of 10 – 25 acres. This size property can cost-effectively produce 8,000,000 kWh annually.
