Skanska relies on Core Development Group for Solar

As featured in Solar Power World and Construction Equipment Guide, Skanska announced the completion of a commercial solar project at the Skanska Maspeth Yard in Queens, New York, with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, Core Development Group.
Skanska, a Swedish company with headquarters in New York City, is one of the largest development and construction companies in the world. As a pioneering member of the sustainable construction and development community, Skanska is focused on renewable energy and transforming the construction industry with research and innovative practices. In Skanska’s effort to mitigate carbon emissions for their equipment depot, Skanska contracted Core Development Group to oversee onsite commercial solar development, including Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) of commercial rooftop solar energy systems on their Queens, NY, facilities. Core Development Group was delighted to assist Skanska in reducing carbon emissions for its Queens equipment depot. The roof-mounted solar system generates more than 655,300 kilowatt hours of clean energy annually, saving 108 metric tons of carbon dioxide or CO2 emissions from 30,719 gallons of gasoline consumed.
As responsible businesses seek to reduce their environmental impact and energy costs, commercial solar projects have become an attractive investment option. Core Development Group navigated the complex landscape of solar incentives and maximized the return on investment (ROI) with the identification and utilization of federal, state, and local incentives (e.g. Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), accelerated depreciation, NYSERDA NY-Sun) to account for over 90% of total costs. Such incentives help reduce the upfront cost of installing solar energy systems and provide quick paybacks that achieve optimal financial outcomes.
